Saltwater Success Starts Here

The marine aquarium hobby has a reputation for being difficult, but modern equipment has changed the game. A quality skimmer, stable salinity, and proper quarantine make a huge difference.

Here’s what we tell every new reef keeper:

  1. Start Slow - Don’t rush the cycling process or add too many fish at once
  2. Invest in Equipment - A good protein skimmer, heater, and lights pay for themselves
  3. Quarantine New Fish - Even fish from our tanks benefit from quarantine in your system
  4. Test Regularly - Salinity, pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate should be monitored
  5. Ask Questions - Our staff have made the mistakes so you don’t have to

Frequently Asked Questions

Is saltwater really that hard?
Modern equipment has made it much easier than it used to be. With the right setup and guidance, even beginners can succeed. The key is starting with proper equipment, understanding the basics, and not rushing. We're here to help you every step of the way.
What saltwater fish are best for beginners?
Clownfish are a classic starter - hardy, colorful, and full of personality. We also recommend damsels (though some can be territorial), royal grammas, and firefish. Avoid tangs and angels until you have a larger, established tank.
Do I need a protein skimmer?
For most marine setups, yes. A good skimmer removes organic waste before it breaks down, making your tank much more stable. We can recommend the right skimmer for your tank size and budget.
How do I acclimate saltwater fish?
Drip acclimation is best for marine fish. We'll explain the process when you purchase, but basically you slowly mix your tank water with the bag water over 45-60 minutes. Never dump bag water into your tank.
Can all saltwater fish go in a reef tank?
No - many marine fish will eat corals, anemones, or invertebrates. Ask us about reef-safe species. We'll be honest if a fish might cause problems with your corals.
